Local
Grower in National Floral Design Competition
Carolyn
Ramsbotham, co-owner with her husband Tom of Ramsbotham's Riverview Farm in
Madbury, New Hampshire, was recognized for her excellent floral design work at
the 2009 National Conference of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers.
The Conference was recently held in Hauppauge, New York.
Nearly
100 flower growers participated in the ASCFG Floral Design Competition, in which
Carolyn’s entry was awarded second place. The judges admired Carolyn’s
innovative use of rose hips, roses, callas, gladiolus, and dried hydrangeas,
which, combined with seasonal vegetables scattered at the base of the
arrangement, pulled colors into a pleasing, natural blend.
For her
efforts, Carolyn received complimentary registration to the 2010 National
Conference, to be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Riverview Farms specializes in quality field-grown and greenhouse cut flowers
for local farmers’ markets and its own farm subscription program. They grow a
variety of annuals, perennials and biennials for cut flowers, with an emphasis
on Oriental lilies, which are cut daily during June through October. The
Ramsbothams practice integrated pest management, resulting in minimal chemical
input on their crops. A cut-your-own Christmas tree plantation opens in late
November.
The
Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers is a non-profit trade association
which provides production and marketing information to field and greenhouse cut
flower growers. For more information see
