Updated Care of cut flowers

Locally grown fresh cut flowers are an excellent value for the money. but like all cut flowers, they need some special care.  Once you purchase this perishable product, you need to follow a few simple do's and don'ts for beautiful long lasting cut flowers. Expect your flowers to last 5 to 14 days. (According to the type of flower)

Do remove all the leaves from the stems below the water line, very important!

Do cut the end of the stems before placing in tepid  water and change the water every other day. Chlorine treated water is detrimental to some flowers. Purchased drinking or distilled water is advisable.

Don't leave flowers in the hot automobile without water

Don't place flowers in the direct sun, near heat or near fans

Don't add aspirins, soda or other home preservatives. Commercial floral life products are worthwhile for many cut flowers or a very, very small drop of bleach is helpful.

Don't  use very warm water unless the flowers are wilted or you want to force the flowers to open fully.

Some customers bring a pail of water to the market for the transportation of their flowers. Lillies travel best up right in a pail.
